Russia’s messing with the election didn’t involve ballot boxes. It involved playing on the fact that Hillary was a Clinton, a woman, served under a black man, a Democrat, and Hillary. It was social engineering. It wasn’t as successful this time because white man.

Also, because Trump was a known entity this time around. There really were enough people four years ago that really did think “what do we have to lose?” or who rejected both major parties (remember, 2016 had the highest third party vote since Perot in 1996) or who just stayed home. Enough people recognized the shitshow that was the Trump Administration that almost all the Not Trump vote went to one person instead of multiple candidates.
