re: #193 Stanley Sea
Growing up in white bubble, my story.
I went to an all white catholic school. Until the one little black girl enrolled.
We became friends, my parents & her parents became friends. Her mom had an MG & would come over & give us kids rides up and down the street.
Apparently the neighborhood was shocked.
I had a birthday party where some neighborhood kids were forced to boycott because my friend was there.
I didn’t know all this then, but found out later.
My parents were very liberal in those times & I’m grateful.
I had a Catholic birthday trauma. Not my party, the extremely Catholics down the street. The mom was dishing up the cake, and said, ‘Don’t take more than you can eat. It’s a sin to waste food, right wrenchwench? [but used my real name]. I had never heard that, but agreed, of course, so’s not to be found out as an unwitting sinner. My heart was pounding. I’m sure I ate all my cake, but I don’t remember any of it.
My mom had decided against Catholic school for her 7 after my older brother’s first grade experience. I have no idea whether anything happened, but you have my sympathy. How many years did you serve?
