re: #181 Jack Burton

I’m a techno-geek. I am a security conscious, not a security paranoid person. I like networking and convenience.

With all of that said: I’m of the opinion that over 90% of government computers (those not currently off network or air-gapped) and to some extent private/corporate computers have ZERO reason to be connected to the Internet, even behind firewalls and security. Not everything needs to be on “the cloud” (Someone else’s computers).

On that note. The “Internet of Things” is a fucking disaster waiting to happen, especially with how bad security is on the devices already. Some serious action/legislation needs to happen.

Back in the days when I worked a job that had real security requirements, the operating assumption from security was that any computer on the internet is a security breach waiting to happen. This is the main reason I had so much difficulty believing there could be anything real in Hillary emailgate, since nothing really classified should have been in white world emails anyway.

But that was a long time ago, so I don’t know if it’s still true that there is no such thing as a secure computer with a normally functional internet connection.
