May have worked 100 years ago, but probably useless against modern technology.
Why? it’s not as if lifting fingerprints was some half-understood primitive art back then; tracking the bloody thing out of a 100K+ possibilities in some horrible index card system was the problem. Being able to feed a print into the computer and get it matched without putting in that horrible amount of effort is what modern technology has added; anything that smooths the epidermis for a few days to a point where 1918 dust, brush and tape would not have lifted a print would likely still work today, it seems to me.
Hell, even CSI would struggle to fantasise their way out of that.
