I swear conspiracy theories are making us all so collectively stupid.

They are not making me stupid but they are stressing me out because I am having to expend considerable time and energy dealing with my friends and family who have been taken in by this crap and insist on bombarding me with it.

Of course, I tell them politely I’m not interested and don’t believe in the claims which of course sets off another testy back and forth about WHY I don’t believe the claims and why I am being such a fucking sheep, etc, etc.

I’d love to cut ties with all of them and just be done with it but for various reasons (not least of all because I do genuinely care for some of them) I can’t do that.

I’ve tried politely telling some of them “Hey, let’s not talk politics/virus stuff, okay?” but that doesn’t always work.

Conspiracy theory collateral damage. It sucks.
