I’m fine with leading rebellions. Lead all the rebellions you want. I don’t get how murdering women and children helps that rebellion. Seems to me doing that pretty much dooms your rebellion at the start of it, don’t it?

Yes, I know he had visions. It probably means he was insane, another reason I’m inclined to give him a break.

Sure, we can look at Turner from the rational standpoint of people who haven’t been enslaved and know how to craft a message for maximum effect. And, from that standpoint, we can easily condemn him. Or we can imagine the kind of horrors he probably endured, the emotional instability to which that probably led, and then I think understand why he might want to kill white people. After all, white people were the only thing that stood between him and some level of human dignity.
