That was from 1964, a year in American Pop that in retrospect looks kind of strange. The Beatles made their big splash that year and the ripples sort of disturbed the pond, so to speak.
In “easy listening” pop there were some really big hits that year (Armstrong, Streisand, Martin), but as far as “rock and roll” only a few artists/groups had hits that 48 years later are worth another hearing, and it’s a short list:
