re: #196 darthstar

Just routine thyroid/cholesterol checks. I’m going in for the Journey to the Center of Darthstar tomorrow (Colonoscopy - yay, 50s!). The worst part about prepping for that is getting the plastic dinosaurs far enough up my ass to surprise the doctor.

I don’t do colonoscopies. The VA is on notice that only if I get paid at the same rate as a gay male porn star do I do that sort of thing.

Other tests approved by the FDA are just as effective (more so since a lot of people won’t do colonoscopies) and do not have the risks (perforated colon).

One option is the fecal immunochemical tests, or FIT, which are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It’s used as the first line colorectal cancer screening test in most of the world, including Canada, Israel, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Scotland, and soon, England. It’s recommended as the screening test of choice by the European Union Guidelines.

That is the testing procedure the VA uses with this fifty year-old.

More on that and the reasons the AMA is leaving colonoscopy tests in the dustbin of medical horror history:
