This made me think of Ben Nighthorse Campbell, who was a U.S. Senator from Colorado. He switched parties - D to R - during Clinton’s presidency. Party switching in the middle of public office is pretty rare. Maybe we’ll see more of that?
There were others that switched the same time after the 1994 elections such as Alabama’s Shelby and Nathan Deal of Georgia along with a block of state officeholders and legislators especially in the South and chunks of the Midwest & West.
