There have been well-meaning and ill-meaning attempts to create alternative scouting options. Most died in infancy. There really is a niche for a 21st Cent. wilderness adventure movement—one that integrates genders and parents. Better make it compatible with single-parent and non-traditional families, but require parental involvement at every step. Looking at you, Sierra Club.
There was one way back in the day - I don’t remember the name now. Wildlife Rangers maybe? Something with Rangers in it, I think.
I had one of their books as a kid……how to make things from leather, wood, etc. It was pretty cool. I think they’re defunct now.
