I agree that “causing distractions” for the boys is some gendered BS, but I’m also of the mind that leggings aren’t “pants” or modest attire fit for wearing to school.

I date back to the miniskirt era, and our public high school made no attempts to ban short skirts. Leggings are no worse than short skirts, and certainly more practical for the girl wearing them.

Trying to regulate a dress code in a high school is a waste of time and effort. Teens will constantly test the limits of the policy, and seriously, we teachers have a lot of other shit to worry about than hemlines and hair lengths. Unless a school is willing to require uniforms, it might as well forget enforcing dress codes.

In my high school of youth, as far as I can remember, the only student sent home to change was a girl who came to school wearing a semisheer leotard with jeans and no bra.
