I don’t think this has all that much to do with “opposition oversight” to be quite honest (and if that’s the best argument in favor of voting Republican that’s a whole other problem).

I think it has more to do with the fact that the US Constitution has been successfully (mis?) used to remove impediments to political payments and corruption under the banned of “freedom of speech”.
