re: #1 Alyosha

The only thing particularly unusual about Rodger’s misogyny is how well documented and explicit it is especially since he acted upon his beliefs violently. The one thing I noted within his suicide note/manifesto which recurs at least twice and was not noted upon in outlets as particularly noxious enough to warrant comment but which resonated as particularly awful was his view of his mother.
She had a few relationships after divorcing her husband with wealthier men. Several times, Rodger implored her to marry one of these men so that he could once more be part of a rich family.
At no point is his mother’s desires taken into account, and if he acknowledges her reasons for not wanting to be remarried he dismisses them as a personal slight against himself.
Again, the only thing unusual about Rodger is the degree to which he is committed to the idea of his own superiority.
But his assumptions are in many ways ours too, and it colours the way men view women everyday.

I’m not so sure Roger’s view of himself is unusual. He just lacked the social skills to blend in.
