The move extends an accommodation that already exists for non-profit organizations, which are allowed to refuse to cover for birth control. In short, the religious owners can pass the cost on to the insurer so that they’re no longer complicit in what they view as sin.

Actuarially speaking there is no cost to pass on. All forms of birth control are at least cost effective, and most are cost saving. Insurance companies want to provide coverage for birth control, the only reason individual insurers allow client employers to set terms is so as not to lose the business of clinically fucktarded religious zealots and become targeted for a boycott by fundamentalist christians.
