And the best the Dems have to put up against this man is Obama? I believe that character and integrity count. McCain has both, Obama has none. I further believe that the vast majority of Americans feel this way also. The "liberals" when they are in bunches all cheer for Obama but when they are all alone in that voting booth, with no one to observe them, they'll vote for McCain. They'll be able to go back to their liberal buddies and claim they voted for Obama and who'll be the wiser. And their fellow liberals will believe them, for they are ever willing to swallow a lie. The centrist Dems will no doubt vote for McCain also. When it really comes down to it, aside from the moneyed leftists and Hollywood twits there's only one major demographic that will truly support Obama in the privacy of the booth. Their minds are already made up. They will vote for him even if he sprouts horns, a tail and starts carrying a pitchfork. But statistically, they are not many.
There's a whole laundry list of things about McCain that raise the hackles of a hard right winger like myself. Seldom does a day go by that I don't hear something about him that pisses me off. But by being less repulsive to the left-leaning and centrist Dems he maximizes his chances for winning in November. He's no Ronald Reagan, that much is certain. But I'll pull the lever for him because despite his many faults he may be the only hope for the survival America as we know it. Because character counts.
