re: #1 Rightwingconspirator

Imagine if BP was actually not the cause. Not that they had all their ducks in a row, but a strong conclusion apart from all those early assumptions is the slap many should absorb. Red cheek and all. Fixing problems beats fixing blame, especially in a politically charged atmosphere.

Fixing problems does beat fixing blame. And no company will want to go through this again; the problems will be fixed as best as they are able to given the best technology available today.

My fear is that the panel will be distracted from the real causes of this problem, and that other companies may end up absorbing some of the blame when they should not.

This particular panel is a great panel for looking at environmental concerns; but when people were first named to it, I thought that there should actually be TWO panels - one comprising experts in drilling, the second comprising experts in environmental matters. But we have just the one, heavily stacked with people, good people I’m sure, but people whose primary interest is in the environmental impact of the spill, not the drilling causes for the spill.
