How does the Mormon church keep directly spawning and funding political organizations and not lose its tax-exempt status?

Isn’t that strictly verboten? I mean, I know churches can make passionate arguments for/against political issues, but they can’t directly endorse or oppose specific candidates or issues, nor can they have political organizations directly under their funding/control.
