Exactly right. There was no suffragette or civil rights movement without civil disobedience, which is to say, breaking the law. Frankly, both of those movements also contained “violent” dimensions too, and I’m not talking about violence against people. Property damage (and window smashing) featured centrally in the suffragette movement. This kind of thing is easier to understand in retrospect.
