This is where I read about it yesterday.

I have three comments about this. One, these aren’t regular Catholics. From my link:

Our Lady of Sorrows is run by the U.S. branch of the Society of Saint Pius X. The group represents conservative, traditional priests who broke from the Catholic Church in the 1980s.

Two, I have a little bit of respect for the desire of some religions to separate the sexes. Not a lot, just a little tiny bit. And I can see how playing sports together would violate that.

Three, if that’s how this school wants to operate, they did and should take their lumps for it by forfeiting the game, but earlier in the season, Paige sat out two games out of respect for the preferences of Our Lady of the Sorrows. She should not have done that. They should have forfeited those games too.

Paige, who plays second base at Mesa Prep, had to sit out two previous games against Our Lady of Sorrows out of respect for its beliefs. But having her miss the championship was not an option for Mesa Prep.
