Where was your government when I spent as much as 16 weeks away from my wife and infant son to get a business started?

Providing safety and security for your wife and infant son via the police and the fire department, ensuring that they are protected in your absence. And although you chose not to take advantage of any of the numerous programs available, the government still made programs available to ensure that your infant son would have his health cared for and have ready access to healthy food.

Where were you on those cold winter nights when my old bus broke down in the middle of nowhere and we had to scramble to make the next show, nobody from the government came along to give us a ride.

But they did build the roads so that you even had a chance to get to your show in time in the first place. And these days there just might be someone to give you a ride — look at Georgia and the HERO units that regularly patrol its highways, in trucks full of repair equipment to provide assistance to drivers that need it. Just one more of those “wasteful government spending projects”, I suppose.

Where was your government when I had to borrow money from a bank to make my payroll?

Insuring that bank via the FDIC so that your borrowing could take place with some reasonable guarantee of safety.

Where was your government while I was digging out of a two million dollar debt, playing every smoky beer joint I could to keep from losing everything I owned?

You got yourself into two million dollars of debt. That is not the government’s fault or problem. Most sane people don’t put themselves into millions of dollars of debt in the first place. Most people COULDN’T put themselves into that much debt, even if they wanted to, because banks would stop lending to them well before then. Privilege much?
