Really? I thought that the poem was about this website. The figs (green, like you said) are little green footballs. The fact that the apes (who represent the readers) both eat and defile (by stepping on) the figs represents the practices of upvoting or downvoting an article. The water refers to the links which are also blue. To “tumble in the rushing water” means to spend too much time reading articles and sources.
