Knew he was lying. You don’t get involved in Louisiana politics during that era and not know who David Duke is. He had ran for governor and senator.

Strictly speaking, he doesn’t say that he didn’t know Duke, only EURO (so I used weaker language in the page). But of course, this excuse is laughable, because Duke’s name would be everywhere, including the program of the workshop. (Plus there’s the fact of Duke’s speech there.)
