You are not allowed, as a private citizen, or as a security guard, to use more force than is used against you except for the minimal force necessary to escort someone off a property. You are definitely, definitely not allowed to use force to restrain someone unless you have observed them committing a felony. There was no possible felony committed by the reporter.
