European countries are quite diverse when it comes to these things.

As far as Denmark - it depends upon which era you’re looking at. According to my relatives who do that side of the family, I too have ancestors in Denmark but they are waaayyy back, and we know about them because the Norwegians kept so many records including marriages with others.

Have you been in contact with genealogical societies in Denmark? Some of these European countries even put their records online, and some (like Norway) even have English language web pages to be front ends, as they know many Americans search for this data.
