A while back I watched the documentary on the Carter/Cash family, The Winding Stream (it’s on Netflix), they had some audio of the original Carter family doing songs, but they also had some contemporary artists doing songs as well. Absolutely worth the time to check it out. Included among the artists are the Carolina Chocolate Drops.

Also (finally) bought a few of their songs on iTunes this weekend (I have a rule about not just using my credit card to start buying music, because otherwise I’d probably have no money; instead I wait until my spare change has accumulated and then I use coin star to get a iTunes gift card).

I’ll have to check that out, thanks. Never heard of Carolina Chocolate Drops before either. Thanks. What I love about folk music especially older is how raw it feels. I got the Anthology of American Folk that inspired so much of the 60’s folk revival and it’s just so hauntingly beautiful and eerie also in a way knowing the artists on there are long gone. I’m especially into Celtic folk though. The Dubliners, Chieftains, and groups like that.
