Lawyers don’t generally resign unless one of three conditions are met: 1) Their client is failing to pay his bills, 2) they ethically cannot continue to represent their client, or 3) there has been a falling out with their client.

Since the wingnuts believe Trump is a billionaire who could afford to pay whatever his lawyers ask, that leaves potential ethical violations or attorney/client relations breaking down. There’s no reasonable explanation that says Dowd just decided to up and quit one day.
