They do the same in Canada.

When in Saskatchewan, I sometimes get questions such as “what’s the fuel economy of that thing” and I’ll respond with something like “eighty kilometres for four litres” or “twenty kilometres per litre.” That gets quizzical looks and “what’s that in litres per hundred kilometres?”

My MKC has a setting to change the display from miles/gallons to kilometres/litres which is very handy on my frequent visits to Canada.
