re: #198 subterraneanhomesickalien

I don’t think that its necessarily the “outrage” over the particular content of the article per say with many people. Its the useful idiocy of “moderate conservatives” like David Brooks and the very stubborn ideologically dogmatic realm of modern libertarianism for the interests of corporate power.

Now not all of these libertarians and reaganites like Brooks are purely ideologically driven and utopian in their thought processes, many are just cynical crooks that care only about what makes their employers and themselves more money, but useful idiots nonetheless. But they still are arguing in favor of an economic system that has been very much discredited by the financial turmoil of the last five years.

And that is really fucking frustrating. Hearing over and over again that a doubling down on Reaganism is the cure to what ails us, when it was Reaganism that caused the problem to begin with. Which is what we keep hearing from the “moderates” in the “debate”. Even though most of these so called moderates are just Reagan conservatives that have been redefined as moderates when compared to the more militant nature of the current Republican establishment.

I’m sorry if any of this sounds like nonsense. I’m not really feeling well today. Having a hard time finding many cogent thoughts running through my brain this evening.

That’s well said and I understand your points. The last link in the DKos diary is more interesting than the diary itself. America’s Form Of Capitalism Kills Free Enterprise And Democracy
(although seriously flawed, it’s at least an interesting explanation of the modern anti-capitalist mindset)
It’s an interesting debate but I think the criticism to Brook’s commentary is reactionary. Brooks is not a free market libertarian fundamentalist and they’re attacking things he’s not saying.
