That number includes the equity in your home (net worth of Americans).
Taken into account that way it’s an incredibly low number. (Retirement savings, anyone?)
It’s an incredibly low number that gets you into the top 1%. The incredibly low number in that article is what income level it takes to get into top 50% of income about 34k. Even including home equity, I’d be surprised that most people have more than a couple hundred thousand. There are a lot of people with nothing for retirement savings.
Edit: That should be 34k AGI.
