To follow up on my comment on theory, a scientific theory rests on a solid body of evidence, and attempts to explain that evidence in a coherent way. It also serves to predict and explain future observed phenomena. If a theory fails to explain something, it is tested again and again, and if it still fails, it’s either modified or tossed out altogether.
In any case, it has nothing to do with the common use of “I have a (personal) theory that he is gay”.
