re: #187 HappyWarrior

I would like to thank the Sanders campaign for awakening me that we do have sexism on the left though. Just as I’m glad that a lot of Hillary’s surrogates in 2008 woke me to the racism that we had too.

Sanders and his more obnoxious supporters should just fuck off with their divisive personality-driven bullshit.

However, the Democrats do need to beef up their proposals on economic policy issues.

The ever-increasing gap between productivity and wages means that many who work in the US will be worse off economically than their parents were. In general this is politically destabilizing, and in the US it gets worse because people who are worse off than their parents are going to disproportionally be white.

So we have one of the classic ingredients for a revolution coupled with race issues the US has always had difficulty dealing with.

The Democrats must absolutely not pander to racist sentiments that too many in the white working class use to justify tr*mp support. It’s politically hopeless to try to outdo Republicans on this front, and it would be reprehensible to try. Instead the Democrats need to take a hard look at that productivity-wages gap and come up with some bold proposals.

IMO ‘business as usual’ on economics (with tweaks here and there) will either lose to right wing populist lies or win by such puny margins that little/nothing can be done.
