re: #175 Anymouse 🌹

I had the opportunity to work with a Muslim when I was in the Navy. He was a child refugee from the Golan Heights after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. He and I had nothing but mutual respect for each other (we worked on the same equipment). Moreover, unlike the evangelical Christians, he didn’t try to proselytise on the job (or anywhere else).

When we pulled into ports where Arabic was the principal language, he would volunteer himself to the Captain’s office to help with official translations and such. The rest of the time he was a aviation radio and radar technician.

I do miss that I lost touch with him after I left the Navy.

It’s stories like this that just reinforce my disgust with people Bill Maher and Sam Harris, and disappointment with people like Bob Cesca who support the whole “I’m not saying Muslims are prone to terrorism, BUT…”

Here’s a guy who served his country, is as American as any blue-eyed, blonde haired Christian, but people like the above will never view them as anything but a potential terrorist, because they practice the “wrong” religion.
