Tying yourself to Bush-economics and TARP — perhaps not so brilliant.

“I keep hearing the president say he’s responsible for keeping the country out of a Great Depression,” Romney said at a town hall in Arbutus, Maryland. “No, no, no, that was President George W. Bush and [then-Treasury Secretary] Hank Paulson.”

More than anything else, Romney’s candidacy has confirmed for me the degree to which money trumps all in politics. The man shows time and time and time and time and time and time again that he is just a terrible, terrible politician. He has no real clue how to connect or identify with people, how to handle tricky PR issues without several insulating layers of middle management, or when to shut up. This is city-council-level stuff, for crying out loud.
