That can be hand-waved aside by saying that there are some who had visions of Christ coming into his kingdom. That’s how the Catholic church deals with that passage. There’s a lot of hand-waving you have to do to think that Jesus wasn’t teaching an apocalyptic religion.

I don’t know that there’s anything in the Bible that can’t be hand-waved away by the sufficiently well motivated. This is part of what makes discussing theology so generally pointless.

As far as this particular hand-wave goes, I hadn’t heard of it before, and even as hand-waves go it’s singularly unconvincing. What’s the point of emphasizing that people who would have visions would have them while still alive?
