And this is why, despite the need to campaign nationwide, that the Democrats would be wasting time and resources in certain areas of the country.

Also - if the Ds would have given the Kansas D candidate support in the election this week the mere fact of the D establishment helping him would have sunk him. Its almost as if Ds in these areas must run on a skeleton campaign and hope that there is a tidal movement that washes them into office.
