The GOP could not field a serious or competent candidate in 2016. Trump stepped up on a protest platform, and only a handful dared take him on because they were all all eager to pick up his supporters once he flamed out or dropped outa as everyone was expecting him to do.

And that at some point, DT became the uncontestable front runner, and everyone in the party who criticized him backpedaled and snapped into line..

We may not like them but Jeb Bush, John Kasich, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio were all candidates with real credentials, certainly as real as Barack Obama or Bush 41.
