I do wonder if backlash against Judge Ellis’s lenient sentence will impact other cases. It’s obvious that he was disdainful of the whole investigation as Sumner gets at. Will other judges have the same view?

I do think the “He’d have gotten away with it had it not been for those meddling kids” defense really says he shouldn’t be a judge. (I know he didn’t say it explicitly, but his actions definitely pointed to it.)
