Normally these sorts of pardons happen after the election, particularly if the incumbent loses… or by a termed out president after his successor has been chosen.

I wonder if Trump, deep down, knows that he’s going to lose and lose by a large margin in November… so he’s doing this shit now. Or is it just that getting by on a purely partisan impeachment acquittal, he knows he’s untouchable and doesn’t give a fuck?

Maybe a bit of both?
