Never Trumpers are offended by Trump’s aesthetics. They want to continue the tradition of pretending that Buckley was saying something different than the Birchers, as opposed to saying the same thing in a patrician tone.

They like the self-serving, pseudointellectual perfidy equivalent of burlesque, and it pisses them off that their base prefers Trump’s Tijuana donkey show rhetoric.

Basically why I keep holding the Lincoln Project at arm’s length. Regardless of how the election goes, they’re either going to fold up shop because they won’t have the steam to taunt him for another four years; or they’re going to start knifing Biden in the back for banning abortion.
