I recall the original Scream (1996) rather nicely pointed out that trope.

I was thinking the other day it would be interesting to do a horror movie that unfolds in such a way as to make it LOOK like such tropes are being followed to the letter only for there to be a big subversion at the end that shows the villain IS actually competent and kills all the heroes quickly and effectively.
