I’m Catholic and I laugh at scapulars et cetera - if they’re used like some kind of talisman. What it comes down to for me is not to get hung up on externals. There is plenty of legalistic, ritualistic stuff in Catholicism to poke fun at. It’s not the center.

A reminder of your vows is fine. If you find yourself unable to leave the house ‘cause your scapular or prayer shawl or underwear got lost, you need to reassess. It’s just a reminder.
