I disagree with this part somewhat, because of my before-mentioned description of how winter weather dynamics work in the Southern states.

I can’t even begin to count the number of false alarms that this area gets because more times than not, temperatures hover just above or just below freezing when the precipitation hits - and when it gets into gear, the warm gulf air takes over and all we get is rainfall. It really is a crapshoot to accurately forecast, because it is extremely rare to have a snow event when temperatures are below 25 degrees, and actually stay there.
