The last in-the-wild polio case where I was born was three years after I was born. It really hasn’t been all that long since the disease was driven out of the USA.

I used to show people images of iron lungs who spoke of the concerns of immunizations.
Google images of iron lungs to get a feel of a terror that walked among us before Jonas Salk. That was just one demon laid low.
I was astounded at the amount of younger people never even heard of an iron lung. I said “pretend you are a mother and your sons best friend has polio. And they end up here.”
TB is also a far away and never seen horrible way…
