I have a couple questions.

Are all Bernie followers really liberals/progressives? Or because of Bernie calling himself an independent socialist does that make his rallies attractive to all sorts of political types? And since he is a bit of a phenomena politically, couldn’t he be drawing even some conservatives and libertarians just to check him out?

I think it a minor mistake for anyone to categorize all people at Bernie events “progressives” at this point in time.

When the TeaParty was originally created, it was meant to be for ALL political types. It only became conservative when the GOP decided to astro turf them into their party that everyone thought of them as conservatives nut jobs. I think some of the original tea party members got out once it became too RWNJ.

The young lady with BLM being discussed could see herself and her family as original tea party types and may not be strictly conservative.

Politics in this country is so screwed up and people call themselves all kinds of things. It’s pretty easy to get confused in it all, and I would think more so with the younger people that get a lot of their politics off the internet.

There’s a strong streak of “I know what’s best for everyone” in many white liberals. And a fair number of them can be kind of insufferable. I think a lot of them are drawn to Sanders, because he’s not Hillary, whom they see as tainted by things like her 2002 vote in Iraq. And there’s a whole lot of blindness to racial issues, too.

The thing is, though, Conservatism is openly about maintaining the current power structures. This is exposed by the vastly different response to a rancher stealing from the rest of us to make money (“He’s a REAL American, fighting against Government Oppression!!!”) versus BLM, fighting against ACTUAL government oppression (“Thugs waging a war on The Police!!!)
