But I’ll say this about the Terminator movies, as much as I like them: They’re what everyone thinks of when they think of sentient machines. That annoys the hell out of me. There is nothing that indicates that androids will turn on humans. Hell, I think the worse thing that will happen to us is that they’ll get bored with us and move on, as in off planet to explore the universe.

Well, to be fair, the Terminator films were just in the same root as scifi going all the way back to RUR in the 1920s. If we could create sentient machines tomorrow, would we see them as equals…or would we view them as just slightly smarter ways of doing all those tasks we don’t want to do ourselves? And, if the latter, doesn’t that effectively make them slaves?
