I mean I get not understanding. I’m perfectly comfortable with my gender but that’s the thing you don’t understand so maybe mind your own business and stop treating someone like a freak who you don’t know or understand.

I’ve had sort of an epiphany on this subject, and the somewhat-related subject of “understanding” homosexuality:

I won’t understand, fully, what it means to have my biological sex at odds with my gender identity. Ever. (Just as I won’t ever understand, fully, what it means to be attracted to the same sex.) I can get partway there by learning about others and their experiences, but that’s it. And that’s fine!

More important than understanding are simple acceptance and empathy, something that the Bathroom Police sorely lack.
