Minimum wage is not enough to support a family above the poverty line, so many of these people also receive food aid, which are in effect government wage subsidies for companies like Wal-Mart.
I have read studies that each Wal-Mart in the country costs local governments an average of $900,000 per year in food aid to their employees, most of which is spent….that’s right - where they work at the Wal Mart!!!
