Sea bugs used to be cheap garbage for poor people. Somewhere along the line rich people figured out it apparently tastes good, and all of a sudden it was a delicacy and the price skyrocketed.

I’m sure a lot of “how did people start eating…” started off as poor people trying anything to not starve.

I’m thinking more like thousands of years ago. It was at the bottom of the ocean. How did they ever even stumble across it and think “oh, I’m gonna try that.”

According to Google, the tribes of Maine and the easternest parts of Canada used it as fertilizer, and bait for fishing.
