Yep. The original Halloween was a pretty low-budget indie film. In its initial run, it grossed the 2014 equivalent of $200 million plus; not bad for a film that was shot for about $1.5 million in today’s money.
Quite profitable, and not only that, it spawned a tsunami of horror films starting in the 1980s. It’s even in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.
Yep, I remember that well. I was was a teenager in the late ’70s to early ’80s.
