And with customs wanting to get everyone’s social media accounts and passwords, I can imagine my next encounter with CBP at the Canadian border:

CBP: How long were you in Canada? What was the purpose of your trip?
Me: A month, for tourism.
CBP: Do you have any guns?
Me: In a Smart? No.
CBP: Are you carrying any fruits, vegetables, or meats?
Me: No.
CBP: Do you have any social media accounts? Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, that sort of thing? What are your logins and passwords?
Me. No.
CBP: Pull your car over there so we can tear it apart.

They can’t do that to citizens. I was worried, too, initially.

I shut down my phone when I cross so I have to put in a code to open it, not use the facial recognition. I don’t think I need to, really, and the folks at this crossing are OK for the most part.

But the fact that I even consider having to do stuff like that is pretty sad.
